Who is Eric Salas?

Welcome to my tiny island amongst the gigantic World Wide Web! Thank you for visiting. I suppose you are probably asking yourself - "Who the hell is Eric Salas, and why should I care?" Well, hopefully you will find all the answers you seek here.

To start, I have created this site not only to showcase my work, but to also give the word a chance to get to know me. So I begin by addressing the question at hand... Who is Eric Salas? To put it bluntly, I am an artist. Strangely enough it has taken a few years to come to this realization. It all started with an old 35mm camera, handed down to me by my Grandfather. Roll after roll of film, hour after hour of processing. Right away I was hooked. I wouldn't leave the house without my camera in hand!

I also have a love of music, much like any other person. Which is how I discovered my eye for design. It was by necessity really, but the local band I played guitar for was in need of a promotional poster. So, since I already had a ton of pictures, I decided to try my hand at design. Oh, how god-awful that first design was! But, that fist design opened my mind to design. From then on, I spent pretty much all of my spare time either on a computer, or behind a lens.

Soon I would find my way into the classroom. Day after day, soaking up all the information I could squeeze between my ears. I am constantly trying to learn something new.

So, where does that leave us in this story?... Oh yeah. Here I am learning, designing, shooting pics. The entire artistic aspect of it hasn't hit me yet. That realization doesn't come till much later. I just enjoyed the creative outlet that it has givin me. As my creativity grew, I was hungry for more creative outlets. That's where I was introduced to web design. I loved it! I could create a design, or take a photo and almost instantly I was able to put it in front of the world for everyone to see.

By now, the world of graphics and photography had entirely consumed my life. And I couldn't be happier. I was doing what I loved! I was designing posters, business cards, invitations and web sites. Then one day I was approached by an acquaintance. "I love your artwork! How much would you charge to design my company's logo and business cards?"

And then - SMACK! The sudden realization: I was an artist!? I never really considered myself one before. I was just a guy with a camera who loved imagery in many forms. Now, if you yourself are an artist, or any professional for that matter, you probably had as similar revelation. It's a strange occurrence when that moment hits you. Which leaves me in the present tense. Today. Right now.
